Obituary for Ann Tomson

Print
Ann Tomson, 93, recently of Mapleville and previously of Smith Hill, Providence and later of North Providence, RI passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Providence to an immigrant Lithuanian family, the daughter of the late Anthony and Rose (Sasinskas) Nacomas. She is survived by her daughter Janice A (Tomson) and her husband Carmelo Muzzi of North Providence and her son Steven G. and his wife, Monica Tomson of Mapleville. Ann is also survived by her devoted grandchildren Ann-Nina Muzzi, Cristina Gatta, Matthew Tomson, Michael Tomson and Scott Tomson and one great grandchild Isabella Gatta.

Ann grew up Catholic, attending a Lithuanian Church with friends and family in the Smith Hill part of Providence. She was married to the late George Tomson, a Providence Police Officer with whom she made her family and shared her life. She was a woman before her time; working full time as a Clerk in bursar's office at Providence College from 1964 to 1981, raising two children and maintaining her family and social life. Sadly, Ann became a widow at a young age but that did not deter her; she soon became the matriarch of the family and was an active participant in each of their lives; doing everything from taking care of her five grandchild to participating in her first great grandchild's life. Her family became her life and happiness. Ann loved her children; but her grandchildren were the essence of her life; loving them unconditionally and supporting them greatly whether it was sporting events, awards ceremonies, or a mentor, listening to her grandchildren about the good and the bad. She always provided good advice, a shoulder to cry on, and a snack to munch on. She was "Nana" to everyone. Loved sports and was a fan of Notre Dame Football, Red Sox, Patriots, & Bruins but, Ann's world has always been her family, and she ours. Until we meet again... for coffee. But until that day, your words will always ring in our minds; "love many, trust few, always paddle your own canoe."

Celebration Mass to which family and friends are invited to attend will be held Sunday, 12/16/18 @ 8:00am St. Agatha Church 34 Joffre Avenue Woonsocket, RI 0289 with a Collation to immediately follow Sunday, 12/16/18 @ 9am Home of Nina Muzzi & Amanda Motta 685 Social Street | Unit 302 Woonsocket, RI 02895
