Obituary for Barry S Oliver

Barry “The Warrior” Oliver

A great partner, father, grandfather and friend, Barry “Warrior” Steven Oliver, 59, beloved son of the late John Edward Oliver and Theresa (Carvalho), born on September 18th, 1962, entered into Heaven peacefully on October 9th, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his devoted partner and spouse, Rhonda Bettencourt. He is also survived by his loving children, Angel Lee Oliver. His son, Edward Steven Oliver and his spouse Chelsea. Barry also leaves behind three brothers and their spouses, John and Bonnie Oliver, Ronald and Sandra Oliver, Donna and Frank Delrosso and Gary and Maria Oliver. Barry is also survived by his three beautiful grandchildren, Zayn Barry, Alexus Carol and Kingston Edward, along with many nieces’, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

While he will be missed tremendously by his family, we must also include his extended families. Barry was a man of many families; with Barry’s big heart and personality he was easily adopted into the Laughlin Family, The Freitas Family, The Gonsalves, The Mello’s and Medeiros’ along with several more, all by whom he will be sorely missed.

Barry was a strong, hardworking man and loved his family unconditionally. He was the uncle everyone loved and he was known everywhere he went no matter where he went. He was a great man; a jokester, one who always kept it real and never sugar coated anything. He sometimes would crack a few jokes at your expense but that was Barry and everyone who genuinely loved him knew that’s who he was. He was a generous and amazing man; he would take the shirt off his back for anyone he thought needed it. His smile would light up any room he entered!

He was a familiar smiling face at his favorite hangout, M&M, alongside his good friends and Owners Paul Mello Sr. and Bobby Medeiros. Other than working his regular jobs when he was in good health, he helped out at Hope Congregational church doing maintenance helping clean the daycare, Barry also worked at Newman Congregational doing maintenance jobs.

A man of many trades. He was diagnosed with stage 4 Laryngeal Cancer in August of 2018, from there he bravely fought the hardest battle any man could, with a huge team surrounding him #BSTRONG. Beating the Laryngeal cancer, it eventually spread to his lungs, lymph nodes and into his stomach, but that didn’t stop Barry, you would see him with his huge smile peddling down Wampanoag Trail on his bike he would ride around town often and even when he was not riding his bike, he was walking non-stop. He even did some local community service work serving food to the homeless at the local soup kitchen in Riverside called Good Neighbors. Barry was nicknamed Warrior for a reason! He was a Warrior to all who knew him. Even losing his voice to the Laryngeal cancer Barry was still loud and very much heard. He was “THE MAN” when it was all said and done.
Barry found his peace going to Grace Gospel Church in Somerset, MA where he gained hope in a new light through the word of the lord. His passing leaves a huge void in all of his family, friends and associates he has met along the way.

May he rest in peace and may the peace of the Lord by with Barry until we meet again
