Obituary for Dana Jacques

Dana L. Jacques

A beloved father and grandfather, honored veteran, dedicated public servant, and all-around man’s man is gone too soon! Following a brief period of illness, Dana L. “Danny” Jacques passed into eternal life on Wednesday, February 10th at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Patricia (Turcotte) Jacques who predeceased him in 2016.

Born and raised in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Francis and Marion (Aspinwall) Jacques and brother of the late Gerald Jacques. He and his family were long-time residents of Cumberland and Manville, prior to Dana relocating to North Providence seven years ago. Dana was a well-respected member of the Cumberland High School football team.

A proud US Navy and Vietnam War era veteran, Dana served as a Marine Mechanic aboard the USS Taussig, based in San Diego, CA.

Dana possessed an old-fashioned work ethic, and was admired for his forty plus years of distinguished service with the United States Postal Service, serving as a Mail Processing Clerk in Providence up until his untimely passing; he recently was presented with a Milestone Award in recognition of his distinguished and decades-long career. A proud and active member of the American Postal Workers’ Union, he thoroughly enjoyed his work and the camaraderie with his many colleagues and co-workers, to whom he was known as a ‘walking Zip Code Directory’ because of his affinity for and ability to immediately recall/recite such codes for most places in the country with amazing accuracy!

Although somewhat of a workaholic, Dana was good to his family. He especially enjoyed spending time by the ocean - particularly on or near Block Island - greyhound racing, casinos, chewing cigars, and wearing shorts year-round !

Dana leaves his devoted daughters and grandchildren, Laurie Jacques and her son, Dawson Thompson of Goose Creek, SC, and Allison and her children Brittany and Cameron Jacques of Woonsocket, and three cherished great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Berarducci Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, 185 Spring Street, Woonsocket. Visitation will be held there on Tuesday, February 16th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Committal Services with full military honors will be held at historic Union Cemetery in North Smithfield on Wednesday, February 17th at 10:30 a.m.; attendees are respectfully requested to observe all COVID-19 protocols.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 146 Clifford Street, Providence, RI 02903 would be appreciated. Condolences may be left at [ProvidenceCremation.com].
