Obituary for Diane Mello
Our dear mother, grandmother, and friend, Diane Mello, passed peacefully from the arms of her beloved sons into the eternal embrace of the Lord on June 2nd at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late William Mello, Sr.
Born in Providence to the late Rudy and Camille Mello, Diane enjoyed childhood in a traditional and loving home together with her sister Lorraine Fleming who predeceased her. Her education in the Providence Public School System culminated with the pride of receiving her diploma from Mt. Pleasant High Schools. Diane went on to a she decades-long and very successful career at Max Silverstein & Son Publishing Company in Providence, beginning as a switchboard operator and progressing steadily through the ranks of several administrative positions of increasing responsibility, finally retiring as the Company’s well-respected Office Manager. Following that, ‘during retirement’, she became part of the sales and guest services team at the airport gift shop at the T. F. Greene Air Terminal in Warwick. She was a hard worker and dedicated homemaker for all of her life. Her time in the kitchen would often yield one of the best-tasting lasagnas south of Federal Hill, made with the finest of ingredients including love.
An avid birder, she thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of nature and all wildlife. Above all else, though, she most appreciated the beauty and fragrance of lilacs. She absolutely adored these perennial gifts from God and was happy to reside in a home surrounded by them. Amazingly tech savvy, she spent untold hours behind the screen and at the keyboard enjoying each key stroke, screen shot, and Google find. She also loved music and was especially happy when Elvis was in the building! She was a life-long parishioner of St. Adalbert’s Church in Providence.
Mourning Diane’s passing are her two sons, William of Providence and Joseph in Ohio; they were her pride and joy and the ‘lights of her life’ as were the five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who also survive her. Diane also leaves her dear friends, Barbara and Sara, and her big dog, Bruno. She will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by those who loved her.
Due to current conditions, services are private. Prayers for the repose of her soul and kind memories of Diane would be appreciated.
