Obituary for Estela Andrade Dalomba

Estela (Andrade) Dalomba

A devout Christian lady and our dear mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed peacefully into the eternal embrace of her Lord and Savior on December 13th after a brief period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Jose Dalomba for 48 years until his passing in 2006.

Born in Brava, Cabo Verde, on October 17, 1929 to the late Pastor Pedro and Palmira (Sousa) Andrade, Estela was raised in a traditional and loving home together with her eight siblings. She began her long and accomplished career as a skilled seamstress in Cabo Verde, later relocating to Senegal in her twenties, and finally emigrating to the United States in 1973. She has been a Pawtucket resident for 47 years.

Blessed with sweetness, compassion, empathy, determination, confidence, and an old-fashioned work ethic, Estela went on to a decades-long and successful career in the clothing industry, especially enjoying her labors and co-workers at Healthtex, Inc., until her retirement. She had a particular knack for creating beautiful clothes from scraps, remnants, and any/all excess fabric which came into her possession. Just as she was revered as a seamstress, making countless outfits for family, friends, and even strangers, she was also an excellent baker, taking particular pride in making wedding and Baptism cakes.

In addition to having been a hard worker, Estela was a dedicated homemaker for most of her lifetime, always content being a bit of a ‘home body’. She did, however, treasure her movie outings in Senegal with her dear friend, Antoinette, and more recently enjoyed weekly visits and luncheons with siblings at Emerald Square Mall. Together with her late husband, they opened their home to many in need along life’s way, endearing themselves to all whose hearts they touched.

Mourning Estela’s passing are her sons, Jose, Jr., Gilbert, and Patrick; her daughter, Bella (husband Philippe) Barre; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Ruth Abram and Elsie Cooper; stepchildren, Emily and John Dalomba; and several Godchildren. She was predeceased by her son and daughter, Emanuel and Palmira Mendonca; her sister, Adelina Fernandes; and her brothers Daniel, David, Joel, and Samuel Andrade.

Estela was a faithful and faith-filled, long-time congregant at Bethany Church of the Nazarene in Rumford, where private funeral services will take place this week.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Berarducci Home & Cremation Care Center in Providence. Condolences may be left at [ProvidenceCremation.com].
