Obituary for Gay Herrington
Shigeyo (Gay) Herrington, 89 of East Greenwich, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hilo, HI she was a daughter of the late Matakichi and Kin (Saito) Sato. Gay was a loving wife, for 50 years, to the late Keith Herrington by whom she was predeceased. She is survived by her devoted son Kim, daughter-in-law Stacey and their 3 beautiful daughters, Samantha, Kirsten and Addison, as well as her sisters Mildred and Hirono.
Gay had a full, long life of many accomplishments and experiences from working at CBS in the 1950s during the heyday of television and movie stars, to raising a family in CA, and watching her grandchildren grow in GA. Known for her compassion, she wrote thousands of letters and cards for decades to sick and injured people she didn’t know personally. She often developed friendships with these people after months or years of encouraging letters and cards.
Always thoughtful, she was also famous for giving small gifts to everyone she met, from doctors, to neighbors and visitors to our home. She loved her family, her church, and was loved back by everyone she met. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Services for Gay will be private.
