Obituary for James Peters

OBITUARY of JAMES R. PETERS

James R. ‘Jim’ Peters, 77, of Riverside, beloved husband of Rosemarie (Fontes) Peters, passed peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021, at Hope Hospice Center in Providence following a brief period of declining health.

He was born in Providence on October 22, 1943 to George and Amelia (Vieira) Peters. Raised and educated in East Providence, he was a proud graduate of East Providence High School where he was a valued member of the golf team. He had a life-long affinity for sports, frequently attending the games and matches of his grandsons’ teams. He also enjoyed bowling in his earlier years and continued golfing throughout most of his adult life, playing a variety of courses and maintaining a membership at Crestwood Country Club for several years.

Jim enjoyed a decades-long and distinguished career as a Manufacturing and Sales Executive, spending over 30 years at M & F Case Company in Pawtucket, 11 of which as Vice President of Manufacturing. He went on to serve for 17 years as Senior Sales Manager at Advanced Looseleaf Technologies (ALT) in Rehoboth and concluded his career in a similar position at Taylor Box Company in Warren.

Jim was kind and considerate, gregarious, always joking, and usually ‘the life of the party’, sharing his great sense of humor with all within earshot and beyond. A ‘grill master extraordinaire’, he thoroughly enjoyed hosting pool parties and holiday gatherings.

Besides his beloved wife, Jim is survived by his children, James, Jr. (Crystal) of Coventry, Jay (Regina) of Johnston, Scott (Josephine Araujo) of Riverside, and Christopher (Ann-Marie) of East Providence; his grandchildren, Joseph, Alex, and Kyle Peters and Jake and Noah Araujo; his sister-in-law, Shirley Peters of East Providence; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends. He was predeceased by his brother George Peters.

Jim will return to his boyhood church, St. Francis Xavier, located at 81 North Carpenter Street in East Providence, where he once served as an altar boy, for his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.; relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s memory to the American Heart Association, RI Chapter, One State Street - Unit 200, Providence, RI, 02908 would be appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Berarducci Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Providence.
