Obituary for John C Coyle

A beloved father, a dear friend, and a genuinely good man, has left us. John Coyle, 58, of Providence, RI, was relieved of his pain and passed peacefully into the eternal embrace of the Lord on June 19th at the HopeHealth Hospice Center in Providence following a long and courageous battle with colon Cancer. John was the cherished father of Samantha Coyle - her loving ‘Daddio’ - and the former husband of Jessica (Storm) Coyle.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 3 rd , 1961 to the late Charles Sabec and Loretta Vitt, John successfully conquered many childhood challenges. John attended Oberlin College, studying Economics and English. He was previously employed by Crunchtime Information Systems in Boston, MA, and was a General Manager at the New Sheridan Hotel in Telluride, Colorado before that. John travelled the world with his software career, and enjoyed exploring new cultures. John was a life-long learner, astute scholar, avid reader, and an amazing writer.

He loved baseball, soccer, and football. His teams were the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. John was a World War II buff, had an affinity for history, a love affair with the classics, and a particular penchant for poetry. Not always serious, however, John practiced, perfected, and performed many practical jokes to the delight of the unsuspecting. He could make most anyone laugh – or at least smile! He could often be found in the kitchen cooking, baking, and otherwise preparing outstanding meals for family and friends. His quest to bake the perfect loaf of bread was never-ending. As a larger-than-life man’s man, he also thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, especially when fly fishing, hiking, camping in the back woods, or hanging at the beach. Although cut all-too-short, John’s life was full and complete. He is a testament to tenacity, resiliency, courageousness, and loyalty. In the end, he is an inspiration to those that truly knew him. In the

immortal words of William Shakespeare: “He was a great human being and the likes of him we’ll not see again!”

In addition to his cherished daughter, Samantha, who was his pride and joy and the light of his life, and her mother, Jessica, John leaves his former mother-in-law, Elizabeth Reif and her husband, Karl Reif, of Buffalo, NY and Diana Storm, wife of his late former father-in-law, Roger Storm, of Buffalo, NY. Among his close and loyal friends who encircled him with love, support, and comfort throughout his almost ten years of suffering and myriad treatments and now mourn him are: Robert and Tiffany Baumann; Matthew Baumann and Godson Garrett Baumann; Larry and Heather Rosen; Russell and Sabrina Bent; Brenda Bentzen Moreaux; Heidi Lilleng Ringstad; and a dedicated team of caring medical professionals at Rhode Island Hospital, all of whom are owed a debt of gratitude. His special canine friend, Pixie, will miss his affections. John will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those who loved and cared for him.

“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Due to current pandemic restrictions, services will be private. A celebration of John’s life may be scheduled at a later date. In addition to prayers for the repose of his soul, the family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of John be made to Lifespan Cancer Research Institute at Rhode Island Hospital.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Berarducci Home & Cremation Care
