Obituary for Joseph Leroy Browne

Joseph LeRoy Browne, 73, died of heart failure in Providence, RI, May 6, 2019. Born January 14th, 1946, he was a son of the late Joseph and Eileen Ruth Asemissen Browne. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Jeffrey. He is also survived by his children, Jason Browne (Yesenia Chavez Browne) of Los Banos CA, Stephanie Browne Jean (Kevin) of Gilbert AZ, and Seth Browne (Elle Garcia) of Colorado Springs CO, as well as his stepchildren Karen Welser (Roger) of Providence RI and Aimee Jeffrey of Chevy Chase MD. Joseph is survived by eleven grandchildren: Andrew Welser, Evan Welser, Samuel Joseph LeRoy Browne, Nicholas Joseph Jean, Joseph Browne, Jenya Welser, Lillian Jean, Nya Stoian, Gabriella Browne, Teddy Stoian, and Mari Welser. He also leaves his brother, Robert Browne, as well as seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Babel.

Joseph was a much-loved man who loved hugely, says his daughter Stephanie. The most important thing to him was his family. He cherished his wife, Susan, who was his anchor for forty years. He loved his children fiercely. His three children adored him; each named a son in his honor. He delighted in nature -- the mountains and ocean, and also tropical flowers, many varieties of which he raised. He had a lifelong hobby of garage-saleing; he loved the bargain-hunting and often took his kids along to find treasures. He loved Hawaiian culture, Hawaiian music, and the Hawaiiana he collected at garage sales. He and Susan enjoyed traveling anywhere! He appreciated trying the foods and seeing the art and culture of the world and meeting interesting people wherever he went. He leaves behind many dear friends in California and Kauai.

There will be a private family memorial.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to your favorite school, library, or senior center.
