Obituary

Obituary for Juana Garcia-Valdez

Born in Las Paredes de Haina, Dominican Republic on April 10, 1943 to Ignacio and Juana Valdez, she was raised in a traditional Catholic home together with her nine siblings Alberto Valdez, Jose Valdez, Ignacio Valdez, Rafael Valdez, Jesus Valdez Freddy Valdez, Maria Valdez, Rosa Valdez, Flor Valdez. She was intimately involved in every facet of homemaking and caring for her family, ‘doing anything that needed doing’; such caring earned her great respect and she is highly revered by her family. Following several trips from the DR to ‘move the family forward’, she relocated to the United States of America where she first settled in New York then relocated to Rhode Island to be with her daughters and grandchildren while continuing to push her hard-working morals and beliefs.

A strong, courageous, and proud woman, she was independent, capable, hard-working, and sometimes even stern; certainly, to know her was to love and admire her. Juana loved shopping and her favorite dishes were sancocho, víveres, naranjas, bollos de maíz or anything heavy meat related. She was a no-nonsence woman who would scold you in public and care for you in private.

Family oriented and deeply religious, Juana loved nothing more than spending quality time with
family and found solace and peace in frequent prayer. A wise woman who always spoke her
mind and pulled no punches, she will be remembered for saying such things as: "El hombre
quiere a los hijos mientras quiere a la mujer", "El que nada sabe, nada vale", " Bueno, bonito y barato" and "Ese sana-ban-beache dique $10.00;.

She is survived by son Robinson Garcia; daughters, Tanairi Garcia and Cristiana Villanueva;
grandchildren Sai R. Villanueva, Sahaira M. Villanueva, Sahiri T. Villanueva, Coralia A. Garcia,
Robinson Garcia Jr, Fiordalisa Garcia, Kimberly Garcia, Ashley Garcia, Crisalicie Garcia, Jayzani A. Bueno, Laila L. Bueno, Zeyrexi A. Bueno; great grandchildren Tahiri A. VIllanueva, Tailee A. Villanueva, Sailah A. Firpo, Roberto K. Villanueva, Aitana A. Azuris, Malia R. Hyppolite, Grayson R. Garcia, Aiden Garcia, Andreo Dillard, Valentino Dillard and predeceased by son Ramon Garcia.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Church in Providence, RI and
temporary burial took place in North Burial Ground. Additional services and final burial are
being planned for a future date in the Dominican Republic. In the meantime, the family would
appreciate kind thoughts and prayers for Juana’s intentions.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Berarducci Home & Cremation Care Center in Providence,
RI.
