Obituary for Lorita Margaret MacDougall (Mathos)

Lorita MacDougall (Mathos), 76, of Riverside, was called home to the Lord on March 22, 2020 after her courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Lorita was born on January 22, 1944, to the late Joseph & Rita (McKiernan) Mathos in Providence, RI. She spent many years working in the cardiology departments at both The Miriam Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital. She found her true passion working as a home health aide where she compassionately cared for others until her diagnosis in early 2019.

Lorita was a woman of great faith and attended Faith Christian Center for many years and has called Grace Christian Fellowship her church home since 2006. She is survived by her children; Victoria Swiss, Kimberly MacDougall, Robert MacDougall, and Matthew MacDougall; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren with another on the way. She is predeceased by her brother John and leaves behind her sisters; Judith, Donna and Patricia and her brother; Peter.

She revered time spent with her family, including her many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank the staff of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital who treated her with compassion and were inspired by her courage, joyful attitude and bravery throughout the course of her treatment. The family welcomes donations to the American Cancer Society in Lorita’s honor as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers. In lieu of a funeral, the family will host a private celebration of life at a later time.
