Obituary for Maurice Cyr

Maurice G. Cyr, aka ‘Moe’, 85, of East Greenwich, passed away on Sunday, May 3,2020 with his best friend and companion, Holly Stahle, by his side along with staff from the West View Nursing and Rehab. His death resulted from complications due to COVID-19. In addition to his companion Holly, Moe is survived by his children, Michelle (husband, Richard), Jean, Maurice, Jr., Elaine, Danielle, and Gabrielle (husband, Robert); a stepson, Matthew Smith; three grandchildren; and his sister, Jocelyn. He was predeceased by his older brother, Raymond.

Moe was raised in Westport, MA, where he attended parochial schools, graduating from Prevost High School. He later earned a degree from the Rhode Island School of Electronics.
Of his accomplishments, he was most proud of being a co-founder of the Ferret Association of Rhode Island where, over many years, he cared for over five hundred ferrets, helping to find their fur-ever homes and where he proudly wore the title of “Head Pooper Scooper”. Moe was also an avid birder and enjoyed creative writing, reading, country music, and working in his shed.

Moe will be remembered for his ever constant sense of humor, quick wit, love of all animals, and his ‘nine lives’ as a survivor of childhood rheumatic fever, several bouts of cancer, and a heart transplant in 1999. The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff at West View Nursing and Rehab, especially those on the second floor for the excellent and loving care Moe received.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Berarducci Home & Cremation Center. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, Maurice’s services are mandated private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in thanksgiving for his life may be made to the Brigham & Women’s Heart Transplant Foundation, 75 Fountain Street, Boston, MA 02115, in care of Debbie Page.
