Obituary for Normand J Giguere

OBITUARY NOTICE ~ NORMAND J. GIGUERE

A loving and devoted spouse, Normand J. Giguere, 72, of Woonsocket passed away peacefully on Saturday, January, 28, 2023 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Born to Aldor and Cecile (Picard) Giguere on October 5, 1950, he leaves behind his beloved wife, Rita (Faini) Wirrell of Whitinsville, MA, and is survived by his children, Jeffery Giguere and Tracy Prachith; his grandchildren, Brady, Alyssa, and Matthew, all of Woonsocket; and his siblings, Robert (Sunny) Giguere in Colorado, Alice Veysey (Joseph Gagnon), and Doris Severance, both residing in Vermont. He will also be deeply missed by Mitzi, the Beagle/Terrier with whom he had a special bond.

A life-long resident of the City, Normand was a graduate of Woonsocket High School, Class of 1969. Defending our country during the Viet Nam Conflict, Normand was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, achieving the rank of E3 and involved in food sanitation and marine mechanics, he earned three Bronze Stars and was honorably discharged in 1975.

A hard worker, Normand was employed as a machine operator/production leader at Draper Mfg. in Hopedale and Avery-Dennison Corporation in Framingham until retirement. A ‘man’s man’, he loved most sports, especially football, baseball, and golf. He was a tournament poker player and won two WPTA Tournaments. Always content ‘in his own skin and backyard’, Normand was a long-time member of the Bellingham Sportsmen’s Club and enjoyed comfort foods such as hot dogs, strawberry ice cream, and of course, French fries! (Sadly, despite his food service experiences in the Navy, he had virtually no gourmet taste or culinary skills!)

Following a partially debilitating stroke, he amazing developed a latent artistic talent which enabled him to paint a collection of several magnificent pieces on canvas in watercolor! This activity, listening to Country music, occasional dancing, and time spent by the ocean brought him peace, contentment, and joy.

Services and visitation, to which relatives & friends are cordially invited, will be held on Sunday, February 5th from 2:00 until 4:00p.m. at the Berarducci Home & Cremation Center, 185 Spring Street, Woonsocket. Inurement will be held at a later date in the Cape Cod Veterans’ Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
