Obituary for Palmino A "Palmy" Vecchio

Palmino “Palmy” A. Vecchio, 72, a life-long resident of Federal Hill, passed away peacefully at home. Palmy was a loving father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Palmy was a man of few words, but would always make you laugh and was “A friendly face on the Hill.”

A loving son of the late Palmino and Jennie “Jake” (Andreozzi) Vecchio. The eldest son of eleven children and raised together with his beloved siblings in a traditional Italo-American family. Palmy will be remembered by those who knew him as a handsome, reserved man, who was quick-witted with a dry sense of humor, and was truly one of a kind. He was a member of the Young Italian Imperial Club. Palmy often frequented Andino’s for his morning coffee, Camille’s for his Friday night dinner, and Roma to gather with friends. Palmy was a retired laborer for the City of Providence. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida in his early years, was an avid New York Yankees fan, and enjoyed watching old western “cowboy” movies. There wasn’t a day that went by that Palmy wasn’t in touch with his family and his lifelong best friends, Gary Corsi, Robert and David Pizzuti.

He is survived by his son, Raymond of Virginia Beach, VA and his two beautiful grandsons, Jaxson and Parker. He is also survived by his siblings, Deborah Cotroneo and her husband, Thomas of Lincoln; Richard Vecchio of North Providence; Peter Vecchio and his wife Cheryl, of North Providence; Anthony Vecchio of Johnston; Angelo Vecchio of Lincoln, Lisa Vecchio of North Providence and John Vecchio and his wife Joanna, of Providence. His aunt, Delores (Andreozzi) Pistorio, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins, by whom he will be sorely missed. Palmy was predeceased by his son, Anthony, his loving sister Marie, and brothers Raymond, and Arthur.

Visititation for Palmy, to which family and friends are respectfully invited to attend, will be held, Friday evening March 4th, 2022 from 5-8 pm in the Berarducci Funeral Home 26 Grove St., Providence.

Rest in Peace our dear Palmy, you will be fondly remembered and missed dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations, in Palmy's memory, may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 State St, Unit 200, Providence RI 02908 or the Ronald McDonald House at 45 Gay St., Providence RI 02905
