Obituary for Patrick McEvoy

PATRICK McEVOY

A very good-natured, fun loving, well respected, and beloved Irishman has gone home to claim his pot-of-gold ! Proud of his Irish heritage and his adventures and accomplishments during his well-travelled life, long-time Uxbridge resident, Patrick McEvoy, 83, passed peacefully into the embrace of the Lord on New Year's Day, in the comfort of his Irish music-filled room at the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge, MA, surrounded by loved ones and caring staff.

Born and raised a Roman Catholic in Ireland, he moved to England as an adult to join the Queens Park Rangers professional soccer team. After an injury, he left soccer and joined the London Fire Brigade where he was decorated by Queen Elizabeth for heroically saving many lives.

Patrick lived in Australia for several years before becoming the Fire Chief on the island of Bougainville of Papua New Guinea. While there, he created and coached the men’s soccer team, and fell in love with the woman who would become his wife, Rita Rose Palmari of North Uxbridge. After marrying her in Massachusetts, Patrick continued to volunteer coaching youth soccer, play his guitar (having been taught by the renowned Eric Clapton), enchanting listeners with his stories, laughing at the stories of others, and giggling whenever his dear Rita kissed him.

Surviving him besides his beloved wife, Rita, are his loving daughter, Evelyn, his cherished grandson, Adrian, and two great-grandchildren, all of whom reside in Australia. He also leaves several beloved family members who are so grateful for the compassionate care he received from Compasses Hospice Care and the wonderful staff at the Lydia Taft House. May dear Patrick be embraced by the loving arms of God and rest in eternal peace.

Services will be held in the spring and will be added to the website at that time. Condolences may be left at [ProvidenceCremation.com].

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimers Association, or a tree planting in memory of Patrick, who was an avid gardener.
