Obituary for Robert W. Maroney

Robert “Bob” Maroney, 65, of Attleboro and formerly of Warwick and Coventry, an accomplished musician and loving family man, passed into eternal life on December, 2, 2020 at the Hope Hospice Center in Providence.

Born in Pawtucket on December 9, 1954 to the late Walter Thomas and Jeannette Doris(Robideau) Maroney, Bob was raised in Coventry and was a proud graduate of Coventry High, Class of 1973.
A hard worker, he enjoyed and was employed in a variety of challenging positions throughout his lifetime including millwork, security service, professional gigs with several bands, computer repair and web design (he was a bit of a ‘Geek’), and perhaps his most rewarding 15 years providing compassionate patient care at Fuller Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

Robert’s passion, of course, was music and it consumed him for most of his life. He was an accomplished musician, singer/songwriter, instrumentalist, and fan. Very popular and well-known ‘in his day’, he was an awesome vocalist and highly skilled bassist who could also play multiple instruments. He played in many local bands, including: Ritual, Tiger Rose, Strange Brew, and many others on the circuit throughout his long and outstanding career. He was a HUGE Jimmy Hendrix fan who also loved the Doors, Van Halen, Chris Cornell, and many others.

When he wasn’t making or listening to great music, he was equally happy to be making great memories with family and friends. He enjoyed frequently ‘checking in’ with them whether on Facebook, the telephone, or in person. Warm and kindhearted, Bob was always the ‘life of the party’, often with funny stories to tell, and forever seeking reasons to laugh. He loved getting together for the holidays and keeping up with all members of his beloved family by whom he’ll be deeply missed but fondly remembered. In the immortal words of William Shakespear: “… the likes of him we’ll not see again.”

Mourning Robert’s untimely passing are his beloved sons, Justin Maroney (Christa) of Warwick, and Derek Lessard (Brinkley) of West Warwick; step daughter, Shayla K. (husband David) Vance of Charleston, SC; cherished grandchildren, Devon Maroney, and Preston and Deklyn Lessard; dear sister, Carol Ann Jarbeau of Coventry; and life-long friend and former spouse, Elaine Anne (Gladu) Maroney.
