Obituary for Scott Gary Peters

Scott Gary Peters

A beloved father, brother, and friend, Scott Gary Peters also known by his Native American name, Little Bear, 64, of Coventry, formerly of Providence, passed away peacefully at Kent Hospital on July 7th, 2023, after a long period of ill health. Born on Cape Cod on February 4th, 1959, he was a cherished son of the late John and Barbara Louise (Avant) Peters.

He is survived by his daughters, Savon Peters Rodrigues of Providence and Christina Rix. He was a stepfather to Antoine and Curtis Rodrigues, both of Providence. He also leaves his siblings, Anita Peters Little, John Jim, Ramona, Carl, and Ray Peters, Kyla Ward, Autaquay Peters-Mosquera, Aquaya Peters, Robin Tumpum Peters, and three grandchildren by whom he will be sorely missed. He was predeceased by his brother, Williams Peters, and his son, Christopher Rodrigues.

Scott was a proud Native American and member of the nationally recognized Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, also known as the People of the First Light of Massachusetts and Eastern Rhode Island. He was outgoing and handsome, meticulous with his appearance. He had a great personality, loved being around friends and family, and was usually the life of the party wherever he went. He was a man’s man and loved outdoor activities such as fishing, canoeing, bike riding, and even roller-skating. He made his living as a handyman with expert skills in carpentry and boiler work, and was regarded as an extraordinary painter. A life-long reader, he had a particular interest in anything about science and animals.
