Obituary for Shirley Landon (Silva)

Everyone loved her! Our kind, compassionate and beautiful Shirley (Silva) Landon, 74 of Providence passed away on January 24th, 2022. A cherished daughter of the late Anna Mae Virginia Silva, she was the loving mother of her devoted son, Anthony Segama, and his beautiful wife, Giorgi, of West Warwick.

Shirley was the beloved partner of Manuel (Manny) Pacheco of Providence for more than twenty wonderful years. She is survived by her brother, Norman Silva, of Riverside and two sisters, Joyce Abbatecola of Taunton, MA, and Christine Segama of Providence. Shirley was predeceased by her brother, Leslie Silva, and sister, Linda Silva.

She was a compassionate woman with a beautiful and warm smile, endearing herself to many. She was truly a 'fun' person; fun-loving and fun to be around! She loved a day at the flea market and then a movie at the Park Cinema. She also loved the ocean and was a frequent Rhode Island beachgoer, spending many summer days enjoying the beautiful Newport beaches, appreciating the sights and sounds of the coastline, and feeling the sea breezes.

At other times, when Shirley was in her quiet peaceful moods, she enjoyed cooking her favorite Portuguese foods, watching movies, and reading books and magazines. A devout Catholic, she especially enjoyed reading the Bible and attending church where she found much solace.

Shirley had a great personality and a great big heart; she could often be found helping and assisting her neighbors. If someone was carrying groceries, she’d jump right in and grab a bag. If anyone needed any type of assistance she was there to help. She enjoyed traveling to New York and Atlantic City where she would play the slot machines. She was the soul of our little family and will be sorely missed. May she rest in peace, until we meet again.

A Mass of Christian burial, for Shirley, to which family and friends are respectfully invited to attend, will be held Friday, January 28th, 2022 at 11am in St Mary’s Church, 1525 Cranston St., Cranston. Burial will Immediately follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
