Steven passed peacefully surrounded by his family, close friends and pastor at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Center. Steven was son of Marion (Bloom) Decoteaux and the late Louis Decoteaux. He was beloved brother of; Carol Decoteaux, Diane Poirier and husband Ed Poirier, Edward Decoteaux and wife Sandy. Steven was uncle to his niece Keri, her two sons James and Elijah, and his nephew Clayton.
Steven owned and operated Chestnuts Salon & Day Spa in Providence from 1985 until 2009. Most recently he was self-employed at Femme Fatale Salon in Wayland Square.
Steven was 57 years old, the youngest of four. He was born in Providence, RI. Steven died of lung cancer, diagnosed in April; he made the most of his short time by contacting and spending time with many friends and his family; he made one final trip to the Cape where he spent time every summer. He accepted his fate with dignity and grace and helped all those who loved him to do the same.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service in his honor on Friday, 6/19, at 5pm at Newman Congregational Church, 100 Newman Ave., Rumford, RI. A gathering of family and friends will take place immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted in Steven's memory to The Groden Network Your Autism Experts or to a charity of your choice.
