Obituary

Obituary for Charleen Hazard

Charleen Hazard, 63, of Providence passed peacefully into the embrace of her Lord and Savior on April 30th in Greenville after an extended period of declining health. Known by those closest to her as Chy, she had been a beloved member of the Berkshire Place community in Providence for several years.

Born in Providence on March 25, 1957 to the late Doris Hazard and Hezekiah Mc Bride, she was raised and educated there and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1976. Despite life-long illnesses, almost constant pain, and recent loss of sight, Chy remained strong and positive, and maintained a great sense of humor. She enjoyed comedy and laughter from any source and especially that of Denzel Washington and episodes of “I Love Lucy” and “Martin”. She also loved anything green, anything yellow, and definitely anything sweet. Chy was really not a bit shy at all, but rather had an outreaching nature, great compassion, and a passion for caregiving to the extent she was able. Her Baptist upbringing and exposure to the Holy Bible brought her solace, comfort, acceptance, and peace.

She is survived by her dear daughter, Charleen (“Jr.”) and her children, Marquese and Malik Hazard, all of Providence; her sister, Glenda Hazard and her son, Willie Keelyn, of Providence; brothers, Michael Hazard of Smithfield, and Wayne Burton of Providence, and Hezekiah, Jr. of Georgia; and her Verella cousins, Temple of Pawtucket and Kevin of Providence. Also mourning her passing are several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins including Linda Wilson with whom she had a special bond. She was predeceased by her step-father, Nathaniel Page, and her brother, Rodney Hazard.
Chy would also insist that her forever loyal childhood girlfriends - and sometimes crazy dancing queens - Dori, Angela, Shari, and Fredette be listed among her survivors. The family is especially grateful for their friendship and appreciates the efforts and kindness of all caregivers who assisted Chy in any way over the years.

Services for Charleen are mandated private due to the pandemic. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Berarducci Home & Cremation Care Center. T
